My victim: Hero, a 2005 Christmas Juri head by Cerberus Project. In my opinion, there were many things wrong with her when she arrived, but I bought her for the purpose of being my "practice head" so I didn't mind. My weapons of choice: finely sharpened watercolor pencils, acrylic paint, and soft pastels. I feel kind of like a cheat for using the pencils for the eyebrows... But I don't trust my painting skills to manage such fine, fine lines to simulate the eyebrow hairs. I am a cheat!
Getting her old face off was a challenge in itself. It took a few days of wiping, rubbing, washing and taking many many breaks in-between after getting frustrated at the whole process. Whoever did her last face-up used strange pearlescent and metallic paints that were a b*tch to take off. *_* I was mostly concerned that the her neon pink blush would never completely wipe away but I persisted and after much elbow grease, I succeeded. =)
Finally I had a clean slate to work on, a fresh can of Testors Dullcote, and a vague idea in my head on what I wanted her to look like. I looked at pictures of Angelina Jolie and Virginia Mayo as my inspiration. Yes, it's a strange combination, and I'm probably the only one in the world who will see them in the final face-up when I'm done, but oh well, that's how I picture her look.
I started off with her eyebrows and eye make-up because those were the parts I was most anxious about.
My thoughts about how it's going. I'm not thrilled with my work so far. =/ Her eyebrows are too harsh and dark, and they're placed a bit higher than I would like them to be. I don't know if she looks playful or just surprised in a scary way. *_*
Still, I'm not sure I want to give up on her face as it is just yet. Maybe once I get the rest of her "eyeshadow" and lower eyelashes drawn in I'll start seeing better results in my handiwork. If not, there's always cotton balls and 100% clear acetone to the rescue. =S
For now, she is sitting on my desk, waiting for the coat of Testors to dry so I can continue working on her. I'm giving myself a deadline to finish her before Monday. I'm deathly, deathly afraid that I will screw up and irreparably stain her precious Limited Face. x_x
Good luck to me and I will post pictures of my progress.
